Scrubby Bear Hand Washing Program for Kids
The Lee County Red Cross has a unique program for children called Scrubby Bear. The purpose of Scrubby Bear—Personal Hygiene is to teach children ages 4 to 7 years old how germs are spread, how to prevent the spread of disease and to properly wash their hands.
We would like to extend an invitation for local daycares and schools in Lee County to host a Scrubby Bear presentation. The Scrubby Bear presentation lasts about 20 minutes. A story about Scrubby Bear is read during this presentation that talks about the importance of hand washing during different parts of the day.
The Scrubby Bear program also offers a six lesson curriculum that goes into further detail about germs and emphasizes the importance of hand washing. The curriculum has several handouts, coloring pages and songs. This curriculum also includes lessons about germs, hand washing and how the body fights germs.
Many schools and daycares in Lee County have hosted a Scrubby Bear presentation and we look forward to visiting more in the future.
If you are interested in hosting a Scrubby Bear presentation or would like more information about the curriculum please contact the Lee County Red Cross by phone (278-3401) by by emailing Health and Safety Director Karen Prohaska at hssinfo@arclcc.org.
