Samira Beckwith takes overall crown at StarStruck 2010
Home-Tech's Sonya Sawyer wins Crowd Favorite

SamiraNarrowly edging out fellow competitors, Samira Beckwith (Hope Healthcare Services) won the Top Fundraiser and Best Overall titles at StarStruck 2010 presented by Eva Sugden Gomez March 13.
Dancers competed in both fundraising and ballroom dancing. Beckwith had nearly 200 individual donors to her cause, leaving her with a slight fundraising edge over fellow competitor Deirdre Mann (Family Thrift Center). Together, dancers Beckwith, Mann, Roman Gomez (artist), Sonya Sawyer (Home-Tech) and John Iacuone (Lee Memorial Health System) helped raise approximately $150,000 for the Lee County Red Cross, far exceeding previous StarStruck totals. Sawyer and her professional partner Jessie Garcia took the Crowd Favorite award when it came to dancing.
Each year, local businesses and individuals participate in StarStruck to help support the Lee County Red Cross. StarStruck and other special events like The Quest for Red are an important source of funding for the chapter.
The Lee County Red Cross is not government-funded and depends on the generosity of the Lee County community to support its programs and services.
StarStruck 2010 was the most profitable special event in the chapter’s history and co-chairs Rita Keltner and Sandra Weintraub along with the staff and volunteers of the Red Cross would like to extend their deepest appreciations to the celebrity and professional dancers, sponsors, guests and volunteers that made the event so successful.
